Day Hikes

Cape Town and its surrounding areas are a hikers paradise. You can hike all year round on literally 1000's of trails of all lengths and degrees of difficulty.

What ever your fitness and ability we have a route that's right for you that offers great views and a rewarding experience.

Whether you want to stand on the top of Table Mountain or hike along the coast of Cape Point we have something for you.
​
Lions Head
Grade A+ Requires some rock scrambling and the use of some chains and ladders.
Boasting probably the best view in Cape Town from its summit, Lions Head is a fun hike that spirals around the mountain giving epic' views throughout.
​
For the most part an easy but steep footpath with a couple of ladders and sections with staples and chains. The route offers great views of the city, Table Mountain and the 12 Apostles.
​
We will start at finish on Signal Hill road. Descent is back the way we come up.

Half Day
Platteklip Gorge
Grade A
Platteklip Gorge is probably the most popular route up Table Mountain, and is the easiest - but not easy.
​
This route is great for those that arent super fit but want the satisfaction of hiking up Table Mountain rather than just using the cable car.
For the most part an easy but steep footpath, the route offers a view that gets better and better the higher you go.
​
There is the option to add a trip to Maclean's Beacon, the summit of Table Mountain, onto the hike.
We will start on Tafelberg road and finish by the Upper Cable Station. Descent is either by Cable Car or Platteklip Gorge.

India Venster
Grade B - Requires some rock scrambling and the use of some chains.
This classic route offers a more exciting, scenic and lesser-used alternative to the Platteklip Gorge route on the city side of Table Mountain.
For the most part an easy but steep footpath with a couple of exciting but easy rock scrambling sections included. The route offers great views of the city, Lions Head and the 12 Apostles.

There is the option to add a trip to Maclean's Beacon, the summit of Table Mountain, onto the hike.
We will start on Tafelberg road and finish by the Upper Cable Station. Descent is either by Cable Car or Platteklip Gorge.

Half Day
Skeleton Gorge
Grade B - Requires some rock scrambling and the use of some ladders.
Skeleton Gorge follows a lush ravine through indigenous forest before emerging onto the shrub-covered slopes of the back Table where we visit a ‘beach’ at one of Table Mountains historic reservoirs.
​
There is the option to add an exploration of the back Table onto the hike.
We will start and finish at the Cecelia Forest car park or Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

Half Day
Nursery Buttress
Grade B: Requires some rock scrambling
A great introduction to scrambling in Cape Town. This fun route follows the prominent buttress above Kirstenbosch Gardens.
A steep but beautiful route with a couple of exposed but very manageable sections of easy rock scrambling. The route offers great views of Kirstenbosch Gardens and the Southern Suburbs below us.

There is the option to add a hike around the lower Table onto the hike.
​
We will then descend via Nursery Ravine or Skeleton Gorge.
​
The start and finish point is at the Cecilia Forest car park

Half Day
Dark Gorge
Grade B: Requires some moderate rock scrambling.
A stunning, forested and narrow gorge shooting up from the contour path above Newlands Forest to the saddle between Table Mountain and Devils Peak.
There is the option to add a summit of Devils Peak onto the hike.
We will then descend via Newlands Ravine.
The start and finish is at the Newlands Forest car park.

Wood Buttress
Grade B+: Lots of rock scrambling
This excellent route is our favourite scramble on the Atlantic side of Table Mountain!
Once we leave the Pipe Track we will wind our way up the buttress with lots of fun, moderate, rock scrambling sections up the rock bands, offering great views of the Atlantic side of Cape Town below us.
​
There is the option to add a trip to Tranquility Cracks onto the hike.
We will then either descend via Wood Ravine or Kasteelspoort
The start and finish is at Teresa Ave above Camps Bay

Tour of Table Mountain
Grade A - Some easy scrambling, the route is fairly long with some steep sections.
The hike gives a great feel for the whole mountain.
Starting on the South West Corner and going all the way up the Atlantic side to the Front Table, then back down the Eastern side.
For the most part an easy but steep footpath with varied terrain, there are a couple of easy rock scrambling sections included.
We will start at Suikerbosse Restaurant and finish by Constantia Nek.

Silvermine - 5 peaks
Grade A - The route is fairly long with some steep sections.
With picture perfect views throughout, this hike follows the circumference of the Silvermine East Nature Reserve, and crosses the tallest 5 peaks in the reserve.
I designed this hike especially to help with training for our multi day hikes in the Cederberg and beyond.
We will start and finish at the Silvermine 2 Gate.

The Coast of Cape Point
Grade A - The route is fairly long with some steep sections.
This hike follows the Eastern coast of Cape Point Nature Reserve from the entrance all the way to the Southern tip of the Cape Point.
​
Following Fishermans paths, crossing beaches and following coast trails above the sea, this stunning day hike is like the Otter Trail of Cape Town!
​
We will start and finish at the entrance to Cape Point.
